Brown Bag November 4: Shore crabs and salt marshes

The Knauss Brown Bag Seminar Series continues this Friday with talks from two Fellows who did their research on the east coast.

The first speaker will be Emily Gamelin (NOAA Research Congressional Relations) to talk about the Asian shore crab Hemigrapsus sanguineus. Don't let the long name fool you - these little crustaceans are less than 2 inches across. Emily will tell us how this invasive Pacific species has become so successful along the coast of New England and the role temperature plays in their distribution.

Next up we'll hear from Matt Lettrich (NOAA Estuarine Reserves) on his nutrient work in the coastal wetlands of North Carolina. By studying the movement of water in and out of estuaries, he could determine the correlated nitrogen flux. And he almost got blown up.

Join us this Friday to learn more!
